Principal AI Developer Experience Engineer (AI)

Location: Boulder, Colorado, United States; hybrid with on-site work required at least 3 days per week

Base salary: $170,000–$200,000 per year, plus annual bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Define and maintain best practices for AI-assisted coding, testing, code review, and research workflows.
• Establish safe and reliable guidelines for using LLMs with embedded C++, Rust, RTOS applications, and kernel device drivers.
• Build shared AI tooling and integrations that support evolving models, agents, and engineering workflows.
• Measure AI-assisted engineering outcomes, including defects, reversions, review findings, test coverage, performance regressions, capabilities added, and time saved.
• Support AI applications across experiment analysis, optics development, PCB and FPGA design, and quantum-control software.
• Ensure safe and reliable operation of AI in quantum processors.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Artificial Intelligence.
• 8+ years of software development experience.
• Strong Python skills and experience with embedded C++ or Rust, manual memory management, hard real-time constraints, and kernel device drivers.
• Experience influencing an organization of more than 50 engineers using Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot.
• Working knowledge of LLM context management, prompting, agentic workflows, harnesses, tool use, safety practices, and output evaluation.
• Clear written and spoken communication with physicists, engineers, and new software hires.
