Principal Data Engineer (Healthcare)

Location: Rochester, Minnesota, United States; Remote. Monday–Friday schedule; 10%+ travel may be required. Visa sponsorship and transfer are not available.

Salary: $148,100–$214,700 per year

What you will do

• Design, implement, document, and test databases containing clinical data.
• Build ETL pipelines from heterogeneous data sources using cloud technologies such as Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure.
• Use SQL, Python, and other programming languages to assemble complex datasets for business and analytical needs.
• Create data architecture, optimize databases, and define data transformation, structures, and workflows.
• Conduct data profiling and quality reviews and recommend improvements to data management processes.
• Collaborate with informaticists, clinicians, software engineers, and data scientists while managing projects and guiding other team members.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, health science, or another quantitative field, plus at least five years of professional or research experience; alternative degree and experience combinations are specified.
• Expertise in data modeling, data analysis, data profiling, database design, and data quality.
• Proficiency in SQL and at least one additional data-engineering language, such as Python or Scala.
• Experience with one or more cloud technologies, including Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure.
• Ability to manage concurrent projects, prioritize varied workloads, communicate effectively, and provide technical and consultative leadership.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States; visa sponsorship, visa transfer, and F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship are not available.

Nice to have

• Ph.D. or advanced degree in computer science, engineering, or a quantitative field.
• Experience with clinical data, healthcare trends, predictive and prescriptive modeling, machine learning, or data mining.
• Experience providing enterprise-level consulting services and leading seminars or training.
