Senior Staff AI Scientist

Location: Oakland or Mountain View, California, United States

Base pay: $226,000–$306,000 annually in Oakland; additional bonus, equity rewards, and benefits may apply.

What you will do

• Lead the design and evolution of machine learning models for user intent, financial journeys, engagement patterns, recommendation, and ranking.
• Set the technical vision for AI Science, user understanding, and recommendation stacks while partnering with product and engineering.
• Define multi-year technical roadmaps and ensure models are supported by scalable, low-latency production infrastructure.
• Identify opportunities for personalization, targeting, approval odds, marketing optimization, and revenue growth.
• Establish modeling and coding standards, conduct technical reviews, and represent AI Science in executive and business reviews.
• Lead and mentor an AI Science team and represent the organization at conferences, speaking engagements, and meetups.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or a related quantitative discipline.
• 7+ years of industrial machine learning experience, including 3 years in a technical lead capacity focused on ranking, search, or recommendation systems.
• Experience designing and deploying high-scale, multi-stage ranking pipelines in production.
• Strong ability to communicate technical complexity to executive leadership and influence product, business, and engineering stakeholders.
• Experience with machine learning, ranking systems, recommendation systems, and large-scale production systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with personalization, multi-objective optimization, and ranking systems balancing business and user goals.
• Familiarity with survival analysis, time-series forecasting, or sequence-to-sequence modeling.
• Ability to translate business goals into rigorous mathematical objective functions.
• Research experience in deep learning, recommender systems, and financial AI.
