Genomics Laboratory Manager (Genomics)

Location: Ft Detrick, Maryland, United States; onsite laboratory role

Salary: USD $85,000–$100,000 per year

What you will do

• Manage daily operations and mission readiness for genomic, biosurveillance, and systems biology laboratories.
• Perform and support next-generation sequencing workflows using Illumina and Oxford Nanopore platforms.
• Conduct nucleic acid extraction, PCR/qPCR, library preparation, RNA/DNA quality control, and bioanalysis.
• Oversee laboratory equipment maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, automated liquid handling, and biosafety cabinet readiness.
• Manage laboratory supplies, inventory, procurement records, LIMS activities, freezer alarms, and technical documentation.
• Coordinate with Principal Investigators, Government personnel, vendors, maintenance teams, and external partners while training laboratory staff.

Requirements

• Master of Science degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, or a closely related field.
• At least 10 years of direct biological research laboratory management experience, including management of laboratory personnel.
• Demonstrated experience with genomic laboratory operations, next-generation sequencing workflows, and BSL-2 environments.
• Advanced knowledge of molecular biology, nucleic acid extraction, PCR/qPCR, library preparation, and RNA/DNA quality control.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Biological Personnel Reliability Program enrollment and comply with biosafety and biosecurity requirements.
• Must work at Ft Detrick, Maryland, and be able to travel CONUS or OCONUS approximately one to two times per year.

Nice to have

• Experience in BSL-3 or BSL-4 high-containment environments.
• Experience with Illumina, Oxford Nanopore, automated liquid handling systems, DMLSS, GFEBS, or LIMS.
• Experience with DoD, CDC, Select Agent, GLP, or well-documented study compliance requirements.
