Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote or hybrid, based in the United States or UK, with hubs in New York City, Boston, Washington, D.C., and London.

Salary: $250,000–$295,000 USD annual base salary, with potential equity grants and bonus or variable compensation.

What you will do

• Set the technical direction, architecture, and roadmap for agentic systems processing global trade data in real time.
• Lead reliable, cost-efficient pipelines spanning data ingestion, document understanding, entity resolution, inference, and model routing.
• Adapt and post-train models using SFT, DPO, reinforcement learning, analyst feedback, production outcomes, and agent traces.
• Build evaluation, observability, tracing, and feedback systems that identify regressions and improve deployed models.
• Mentor senior engineers, raise engineering standards, and shape ML hiring and leveling.
• Partner with software engineers, data scientists, product managers, and customers to turn ambiguous trade problems into shipped capabilities.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building and shipping production ML systems, including recent LLM-powered products.
• Deep expertise in PyTorch and the modern Python ML stack, including Hugging Face, scikit-learn, NumPy, and Pandas or Polars.
• Production experience with RAG, tool and function calling, structured outputs, agentic workflows, and human-in-the-loop systems.
• Experience adapting or post-training LLMs with SFT, DPO, RLHF or RLAIF, and reward modeling.
• Experience building evaluation suites, golden datasets, LLM-as-judge pipelines, and production observability.
• Senior Staff-level technical leadership, architecture ownership across teams, mentoring, and strong written and verbal communication.

Nice to have

• Multi-agent systems, agent tooling such as LangGraph, hybrid retrieval, and embedding fine-tuning.
• Vision-language models for invoices, bills of lading, customs forms, and other trade documents.
• Multilingual NLP, LLMOps with MLflow or Databricks Mosaic AI, and AI safety, guardrails, or auditability in regulated domains.
