2027 Summer Intern, AI Engineer

Location: Hybrid in Reston, Virginia, United States; on-site two days per week. U.S. citizenship is required. No relocation or housing assistance is available.

Salary: $27 per hour. The posting also lists a full-time employment pay range of $37,855.00–$64,354.00.

What you will do

• Support rapid prototype development using AI tools and frameworks.
• Build lightweight front-end and back-end interfaces for stakeholder interaction with prototypes.
• Apply responsible LLM usage, prompt design, and grounding patterns using authoritative client data.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and technology partners to integrate, test, and demonstrate capabilities in real workflows.
• Present learning or deliverables to leadership when appropriate during the internship.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship required due to contract requirements.
• At least 30 completed college credit hours toward a bachelor's degree in computer science or a relevant discipline.
• Familiarity with at least one programming language, such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Java.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work in a hybrid schedule from Reston, Virginia, two days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience using AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or ChatGPT for software development.
• Familiarity with GenAI and LLM tooling, including prompt frameworks, vector databases, modern LLM APIs, or Model Context Protocol.
• Experience with Git or another version control system.
• Exposure to AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
