Principal Engineer (Power Systems Protection)

Location: Remote within the United States; occasional travel of 10% or less may be required.

What you will do

• Perform transmission system protection, coordination, short-circuit, fault analysis, and generation interconnection studies.
• Design and develop protective relay schemes and device settings for 69 kV–500 kV transmission and sub-transmission systems.
• Verify NERC PRC compliance, including PRC-005, PRC-019, PRC-023, PRC-024, PRC-025, PRC-026, and PRC-027.
• Review relay operations and system outages, identify disturbances, and recommend solutions to improve system reliability.
• Guide clients and stakeholders on protection philosophies, standards, equipment operation, and setting changes.
• Lead process improvement, documentation, business development support, and supervision of a technical team.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in system protection and control.
• Strong technical foundation in transmission power systems protection and planning.
• Experience with ASPEN, CAPE, ETAP, Powerbase, SEL Quickset, and GE Enervista UR Setup.
• Experience with SEL equipment, software, and programming files developed using SEL Quickset.
• Familiarity with ANSI/IEEE guidelines for transmission system protection design and studies.
• Must be able to work remotely from the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with inverter-based power plants.
• Experience with substation and transmission line design.
• Experience with CYME, Synergi, Windmil/LightTable, or other distribution power flow software.
• Exposure to transmission protection design guidelines and philosophies.
• Communication and teamwork skills.
