Observability Platform Engineer (Datadog)

Location: New York, NY; hybrid schedule with 2–3 days in the office

Salary: $130,000–$180,000 per year, plus discretionary bonus and eligible benefits.

What you will do

• Define the enterprise observability vision, roadmap, target architecture, and operating model centered on Datadog.
• Lead the end-to-end migration from OpenView to Datadog across Windows Server, Unix, Azure, AWS, and OpenShift environments.
• Establish standards for logs, metrics, traces, SLOs, synthetic monitoring, RUM, tagging, metadata, and instrumentation.
• Drive reliability improvements by reducing alert noise and MTTR, introducing dependency mapping, monitor correlation, error budgets, and runbook-driven incident reviews.
• Scale observability-as-code using the Datadog API, Terraform, Python, PowerShell, and Bash, while accounting for network and proxy constraints.
• Manage Datadog licensing, consumption, cost optimization, vendor relationships, executive dashboards, and reliability reporting.

Requirements

• 9+ years of experience in observability engineering or infrastructure monitoring.
• Experience owning an enterprise observability or monitoring platform and delivering a large-scale migration.
• Deep Datadog expertise across APM, Infrastructure, Logs, Synthetics, RUM, SLOs, Monitors, Dashboards, and NPM.
• Strong experience with Windows Server, Linux/Solaris, Azure, AWS, distributed tracing, metrics pipelines, and logging standards.
• Hands-on automation and infrastructure-as-code experience with Python, PowerShell, Bash, Terraform, and the Datadog API/SDK.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship and must work in the New York hybrid schedule.

Nice to have

• Datadog certifications and a bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
• Experience with OpenTelemetry, OpenShift/Kubernetes, OpenView, financial services, regulated environments, or technical team leadership.
