Senior Software Engineer (Hardware Integration)

Location: Los Angeles, USA. The role involves hands-on work with physical test stands and participation in hardware bring-up and test campaigns.

Salary: $160,000–$210,000 per year, plus a significant stock option package.

What you will do

• Architect and build a shared platform for hardware interfaces, test execution, data acquisition, live monitoring, and analysis.
• Develop reusable drivers and adapters for sensors, instruments, controllers, data acquisition systems, and custom electronics.
• Build configurable test sequencing with equipment state management, pass/fail criteria, command validation, limits, fault handling, and recovery.
• Create operator interfaces for test configuration, equipment commands, measurement monitoring, failure diagnosis, and report generation.
• Capture synchronized measurements, logs, test parameters, hardware configurations, calibration data, and software versions.
• Support deployment across multiple test stations, hardware bring-up, test campaigns, and root-cause investigations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience owning production software from architecture through deployment and maintenance.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language and experience with asynchronous programming, structured data models, automated testing, and maintainable APIs.
• Hands-on experience integrating software with instruments, sensors, controllers, data acquisition systems, or other physical hardware.
• Familiarity with serial, TCP/IP, CAN, Modbus, SCPI, or VISA communication interfaces, measurement data processing, and cross-layer debugging.
• Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees, asylees, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations under U.S. Government export regulations.

Nice to have

• Experience with test automation platforms, hardware-in-the-loop systems, or automated manufacturing test infrastructure.
• Experience developing web or desktop interfaces for equipment control and live data visualization.
• Familiarity with time-series databases, streaming telemetry, timestamp synchronization, Linux, containers, CI/CD, and multi-station software distribution.
• Experience with laboratory instrumentation, simulation, device emulation, fault injection, traceability, and controlled test procedures.
