Senior Backend Engineer - Payments

Location: Barcelona, Spain — hybrid, with 3 days per week in the office. Up to 15 days of remote work from abroad per year.

Salary: €65,000–€108,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design complex payment and invoicing features and event-driven architectures for a high-volume payment stack.
• Build scalable financial services supporting payment methods, payroll services, and financial agents across client geographies.
• Write robust, maintainable backend code and apply testing, code review, and continuous delivery practices.
• Monitor and improve backend performance using Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, and Sentry.
• Collaborate with Data, Product, and DevOps teams to deploy reliable solutions aligned with business goals.
• Provide technical leadership, share knowledge, and contribute improvements through Backend and DevOps chapters.

Requirements

• Substantial experience with a current object-oriented backend language; Python and Django familiarity is useful.
• Significant experience in a compliance-heavy industry such as accounting, payments, or health tech.
• Experience operating systems at scale for tens of millions of users.
• Experience managing systems and data models that integrate multiple third-party providers, including payment service providers.
• Understanding of domain-driven development and the ability to make practical architectural trade-offs.
• Professional proficiency in English and availability for a hybrid role in Barcelona.

• Experience with Python and Django.
