Consultant Systems Engineer (Medical Technology)

Location: Drachten, Netherlands. The role involves travel within the Netherlands and occasional international travel.

What you will do

• Lead systems engineering activities across multidisciplinary projects involving mechanical, electrical, software, and physics teams.
• Translate product needs into system requirements, technical solutions, and verification plans.
• Maintain end-to-end traceability across requirements, design, verification, and validation within the V-model.
• Assess system dependencies, design trade-offs, risks, and development constraints to support technical decisions.
• Coordinate specialist engineering teams, internal development partners, and external suppliers.
• Improve systems engineering practices through Model-Based Systems Engineering and SAFe Agile methods.

Requirements

• MSc degree in Systems Engineering, Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• More than 3 years of experience in a lead engineering role involving multiple technical domains.
• Experience developing medical, consumer, optical, light-based, or other complex technology products.
• Strong knowledge of requirements analysis, architecture development, design reviews, V-model processes, and requirements traceability.
• Familiarity with FDA regulations, ISO 13485, EU MDR, regulatory design controls, and quality requirements.
• English and Dutch are required. Strong communication skills are needed for collaboration with international teams, partners, and suppliers.

Nice to have

• Experience with Creo, Ansys, Matlab, or Cameo.
• Experience with IBM DOORS or a similar requirements-management platform.
• Design for Six Sigma certification and strong data and statistical analysis skills.
