TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer – Lightweight Structures (Robotics): Designing and developing lightweight mechanical systems for autonomous ground and aerial robots with an accent on strength, stiffness, robustness, cost, manufacturability, and performance. Focus on FEM simulation, tolerance stack-up analysis, dynamics and vibration analysis, manufacturing-ready documentation, and prototype verification.
Location: Eindhoven (Strijp-T), Netherlands; office-based
Company
develops autonomous ground robots and drones for mobile robotic applications across industries including agriculture, cleaning, construction, and hospitality.
What you will do
- Translate system and stakeholder needs into measurable requirements for mass, strength, stiffness, robustness, cost, manufacturability, and technical risk.
- Develop and compare mechanical concepts, recommend solutions, and defend design decisions with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Design lightweight mechanical systems using hand calculations, FEM simulation, tolerance stack-up analysis, dynamics and vibration analysis, and material selection.
- Collaborate across mechanical, electrical, control, and manufacturing interfaces to optimize system-level trade-offs.
- Create manufacturing-ready drawings with GD&T, tolerances, and assembly instructions.
- Build and test prototypes, then refine designs until they are verified.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
- At least 4 years of professional experience designing, calculating, and testing mechanical systems, including FEM.
- Advanced 3D CAD experience with Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or CATIA, including large assemblies, interface definition, and tolerance specification.
- Fluent spoken and written English.
Nice to have
- Lightweight structures experience in drones, aerospace, automotive, or high-tech equipment.
- Experience with composites such as CFRP and low-to-mid-volume manufacturing methods including CNC, sheet metal, injection moulding, or additive manufacturing.
- Specific experience with Siemens NX.
- Vibration analysis of structures carrying motors or rotors.
Culture & Benefits
- Direct employment in a fast-paced, high-tech robotics environment.
- Salary based on experience level, a non-contributory pension scheme, and travel cost reimbursement.
- Participation plan linked to company growth.
- 30 paid vacation days plus national holidays.
