FinOps Data Engineer (AWS/GCP)

What you will do

• Analyze AWS and GCP billing, usage, and cost trends to identify and implement savings through rightsizing, storage lifecycle policies, data transfer optimization, spot usage, and autoscaling.
• Design and maintain BigQuery and dbt models that transform raw billing and usage data into reconciled FinOps marts.
• Build cost-versus-revenue, unit economics, margin, and customer segmentation models.
• Develop forecasting, statistical anomaly detection, savings quantification, automated reporting, and cost alerting.
• Implement tagging, cost allocation, chargeback/showback, and automated governance using Python, Terraform, Lambda, or Bash.
• Partner with Engineering, Finance, Product, and leadership on architecture decisions, forecasting, financial KPIs, dashboards, and self-service analytics.

Requirements

• Strong AWS expertise and working knowledge of GCP, including pricing models, billing structures, and cloud cost optimization.
• Hands-on data engineering experience with dbt, BigQuery or a comparable modern warehouse, SQL at scale, dimensional modeling, incremental models, and testing.
• Knowledge of statistical forecasting, anomaly detection, experimentation, and rigorous analysis of cost and usage data.
• Automation and scripting experience with Python, Terraform or Pulumi, Lambda, or Bash.
• Experience with AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Cost and Usage Reports, GCP Billing Reports, and BI or dashboarding tools such as Hex.
• Ability to analyze cost data and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences in a cross-functional environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with CloudZero, Vantage, or a similar dedicated cloud cost management platform.
• Experience with Linear and Notion for tracking and documenting FinOps work.
