TL;DR
Operations Engineer (Nuclear Energy): Integrating schedules, personnel, materials, facilities, engineering readiness, quality, tooling, and constraints to support reactor builds with an accent on integrated execution planning, Last Planner administration, and AI-enabled scheduling. Focus on identifying dependencies, resolving constraints, evaluating sequencing scenarios, and improving future reactor planning through performance data and lessons learned.

Location: Oak Ridge, Tennessee, United States. The role is based in a facility with radiological, controlled, manufacturing, and prototyping/test environments. Some travel, weekend work, schedule flexibility, and extended hours may be required.

Company

Develops fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor technology intended to support clean energy generation with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation.

What you will do

  • Own and maintain the integrated master execution schedule for reactor build, integration, testing and activation, fueling, and related operational activities.
  • Administer the Last Planner process and convert long-term milestones into executable near-term work.
  • Integrate personnel, materials, facilities, engineering, quality, tooling, and prerequisite readiness.
  • Identify constraints, coordinate resolution, and maintain visibility into executable, approaching-readiness, and at-risk work.
  • Analyze sequencing alternatives and reduce latency, handoff delays, resource conflicts, and work-front congestion.
  • Use AI-enabled tools and lightweight planning tools to synthesize status, evaluate scenarios, automate reporting, and improve future reactor planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial, mechanical, nuclear, systems, or related engineering; construction management or operations research is also acceptable.
  • Typically 3+ years of experience in complex project execution, production planning, construction planning, manufacturing operations, commissioning, or integrated scheduling.
  • Experience integrating schedules with material, labor, engineering, quality, and physical-work constraints.
  • Working knowledge of critical path, look-ahead planning, constraint management, and production control.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, facilitation, and communication skills, with the ability to make planning decisions using incomplete information.
  • Work in the facility requires authorization to access Department of Energy Part 810-controlled information.

Nice to have

  • Experience with the Last Planner System or lean construction and production methods.
  • Proficiency with AI-enabled tools or demonstrated ability to learn and apply new digital tools.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employees receive medical, dental, and vision benefits for themselves and dependents.
  • Paid vacation is provided.
  • Benefits include 401(k), pre-tax health insurance, dependent care, and commuter options through FSA programs.
  • Work takes place across office, prototyping/test, manufacturing/industrial, and radiological/controlled environments with required PPE and safety procedures.
  • Equal opportunity workplace with a stated commitment to a diverse workforce.
