Principal Software Engineer (Remote)

Location: Home-based remote role associated with Oak Brook, Illinois, United States. Infrequent travel of approximately 10% may be required. Relocation is not provided.

Salary: $152,700–$205,000 per year, with potential incentive and bonus opportunities.

What you will do

• Translate product vision into actionable engineering initiatives and technical plans.
• Design, develop, test, troubleshoot, upgrade, and support software applications across the full development lifecycle.
• Collaborate with Product Managers and Designers to build client-facing platforms and digital experiences.
• Define technical direction and contribute to architecture decisions supporting business growth and organizational scale.
• Lead solution design and code reviews while establishing benchmarks, metrics, and quality measures.
• Coach and mentor software engineers and promote engineering excellence, ownership, security, performance, scalability, and reliability.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in software or solution architecture, including complex enterprise-level cloud solutions.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture principles, design patterns, architectural frameworks, and cloud foundational patterns.
• Experience with continuous delivery, observability, developer experience, DevOps, SecDevOps, containers, serverless, and testing automation.
• Proficiency with JavaScript, React, TypeScript, React Native, Apollo GraphQL, Git, PostgreSQL, Docker, .NET, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with one or more cloud platforms, including GCP, AWS, or Azure, and with secure, high-performance, fault-tolerant, highly available solutions.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience, plus strong communication, analytical, organizational, and teamwork skills.

Nice to have

• Experience delivering web portals, online payments, third-party integrations, and individual or institutional client-facing solutions.
• Good understanding of Agile/Scrum methodology.
