Data Engineer 2 (AI/ML)

Location: New York, New York, United States; in-office 4–5 days per week.

Salary: $130,000–$145,000 USD annual base compensation, plus equity.

The Farmer’s Dog provides personalized, freshly made dog food through a direct-to-consumer subscription service and is expanding into broader personalized pet-care experiences.

What you will do

• Build and maintain pipelines for structured and unstructured data supporting reporting, analytics, and AI/ML use cases.
• Write production-level code that processes and validates millions of events per day.
• Develop AI tooling and automation for data engineering workflows.
• Ingest data from APIs, databases, file systems, and streaming platforms.
• Establish data governance, monitoring, quality checks, alerting, and automated validation.
• Support production data systems, resolve incidents, document implementations, and collaborate across technical and business functions.

Requirements

• 2–4 years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or a related technical field.
• Proficiency in Python, production software development, and SQL for transformation and analysis.
• Experience or strong interest in AI/ML workflows and tooling, including data preparation for machine learning models.
• Practical experience with REST APIs, data integration patterns, ETL/ELT, and independently built data pipelines.
• Familiarity with dbt, Airflow, or similar data processing and orchestration tools.
• Ability to work in the New York office 4–5 days per week.
