Data Engineer, Billing & Payments

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; Seattle, WA also available. Hybrid policy requires staff to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time.

Annual salary: $320,000–$405,000 USD

What you will do

• Partner with Billing Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Product, and other stakeholders to translate reporting needs into technical requirements.
• Design, build, and maintain dbt data models and multi-step pipelines for billing, usage, payments, and revenue data.
• Own revenue data accuracy, reconciliation, data integrity standards, and service-level expectations across systems.
• Define billing success metrics and build monitoring, dashboards, and self-serve data products.
• Share on-call and data operations responsibilities for Finance Data Engineering pipelines.
• Champion SQL, dbt, data modeling, and data architecture best practices while influencing the Billing Engineering roadmap.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer, or in a similar role.
• Expertise in SQL and Python, with experience building data pipelines using tools such as dbt.
• Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow and version control with GitHub.
• Familiarity with invoicing, payments, credits, refunds, subscriptions, and billing-system data.
• Experience building dashboards and reports for multiple cross-functional teams, including with tools such as Hex.
• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.

Nice to have

• Experience partnering with billing, finance, or accounting teams on revenue metrics and reconciliation.
• Experience establishing an analytics or data engineering function at an early stage.
• Full-stack problem-solving mindset, bias for action, and comfort with ambiguity.
