Client Full-Stack Engineer — IM Chat Platform, Android Focus

Location: APAC, Australia, Hong Kong, or Taiwan; remote-first, work-from-home arrangement, subject to the role and team

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain client-side applications for an instant messaging platform, with Android as the primary focus.
• Build real-time chat, group messaging, media messaging, message synchronization, offline messaging, and push notifications.
• Design client-side architecture and maintain a consistent user experience across Android, iOS, and Web.
• Integrate RESTful APIs and WebSocket, MQTT, or gRPC communication protocols.
• Implement local storage, offline-first behavior, message state management, and cross-platform synchronization.
• Optimize startup speed, memory usage, battery consumption, network efficiency, and UI responsiveness while collaborating with backend teams on APIs and production issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 1–3+ years of experience for Engineer level or 3–5+ years for Senior Engineer level.
• Production Android development experience with Kotlin and/or Java, including Android SDK, Jetpack, asynchronous programming, and modern client-side architecture.
• Ability to use AI-powered development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude for cross-stack frontend development is required.
• Ability to read, understand, debug, and modify iOS or Web codebases with AI tool support.
• Experience with real-time communication protocols, messaging concepts, performance optimization, memory management, multithreading, security, Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and Agile processes.

Nice to have

• Experience building instant messaging or communication platforms.
• iOS development with Swift, SwiftUI, or Objective-C, or Web frontend development with TypeScript, React, Vue, or Next.js.
• Cross-platform client development, end-to-end encryption, message security, cryptographic protocols, voice/video calling, or RTC technologies.
• Large-scale distributed messaging infrastructure experience.
• Fintech, payments, or Web3 application experience; open-source contributions or published mobile applications.
