Expert Mechanical Engineer H/F (Quantum Hardware)

Location: Aubervilliers, France; hybrid workplace. Flexible remote work is available for up to 40% of the month.

Alice & Bob is developing a universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer based on superconducting Schrödinger cat qubits.

What you will do

• Design and develop precision mechanical parts and integration hardware, including chip-level components such as sample holders and packaging.
• Produce manufacturing drawings with appropriate tolerancing and oversee fabrication with suppliers and machining workshops.
• Ensure precision, manufacturability, repeatability, scalability, and robustness under cryogenic and thermal constraints.
• Anticipate mechanical failure modes linked to cryogenic and thermal cycling and support the transition from prototypes to series production.
• Build and formalize validation methods, qualification criteria, and testing protocols.
• Share rigorous engineering practices and act as a technical reference for the Cryo Hardware Development team.

Requirements

• Master’s-level engineering degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Precision Mechanics, or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in mechanical design and integration, ideally in aerospace, satellite, semiconductor, quantum, or scientific instrumentation environments.
• Strong hands-on expertise in precision mechanics, machining, assembly, and tight tolerances.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, technical drawings, and geometric tolerancing using GD&T or ISO GPS.
• Knowledge of cryogenic and thermal constraints, cryogenic and low-magnetic materials, thermal cycling, thermalization, and vacuum compatibility.
• Proficient English required; French is a plus.
