Principal Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid role based in Bellevue, Washington, United States, with in-office and/or in-person expectations

Salary: $227,800–$338,800 USD per year, depending on location, qualifications, experience, and education

What you will do

• Define product architecture, including service boundaries, data models, API contracts, runtime design, and AI-to-enterprise integration patterns.
• Design and build agent orchestration, enterprise knowledge bases, retrieval systems, tool-calling capabilities, and multi-cloud execution layers.
• Own developer-facing APIs, SDKs, and tooling used by external customers.
• Lead technical execution through engineering standards, design reviews, technical decisions, and quality ownership.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate across engineering, product, and leadership.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software development experience.
• 7+ years of hands-on experience with fault-tolerant, highly scalable cloud architectures and cloud-native services on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Strong server-side engineering experience with Node.js, Python, Java, Go, or Rust.
• Production experience building RESTful APIs, microservices, distributed systems, SQL and/or NoSQL data stores, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of cloud security fundamentals, including authentication, authorization, OAuth, SSO, encryption, and compliance.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience building AI agent systems or LLM-powered products with tool calling, RAG, and prompt orchestration.
• Knowledge of agentic design patterns, context management, multi-step reasoning, and grounding models in enterprise data.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, or CloudFormation.
• Background in enterprise infrastructure, cloud data services, or storage systems.
• Previous experience as a principal engineer or technical lead.
