Staff Power Electronics Engineer, Energy Storage

Location: Fully on-site at 100 Hooper, San Francisco, California, United States

Salary: $160,000–$200,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Design high-voltage, high-power converters for battery energy storage systems and industrial infrastructure.
• Evaluate converter topologies and trade-offs across efficiency, power density, cost, and manufacturability.
• Select power-stage components and semiconductors, design gate drivers, and develop hardware protection circuits.
• Design custom transformers, inductors, low-voltage subsystems, sensing circuits, and EMI filters.
• Lead high-voltage PCB/PCBA layout, including clearance, creepage, and signal-integrity requirements.
• Collaborate with Mechanical, Controls/Firmware, Systems, Compliance, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing teams to take designs from concept through production and certification.

Requirements

• MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power electronics.
• 5–7 years of electrical engineering experience focused on power conversion or energy storage products.
• Hands-on experience designing hardware up to 1.5kVdc and 800Vac; experience up to 25kVdc and 34.5kVac is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of AC/DC and DC/DC topologies, power semiconductor selection, gate-drive design, and hardware protection.
• Experience with circuit, FEA, and CAD tools such as Simulink, LTspice, Ansys Maxwell/Q3D, and Altium Designer.
• Experience with laboratory equipment, rapid prototyping, hardware iteration, DFM, and cross-functional technical collaboration.

Nice to have

• Experience with high-voltage SST hardware up to 25kVdc and 34.5kVac.
• Experience in mass-production energy storage or power conversion products.
• Experience mentoring test technicians and defining component maturity criteria.
