Senior Data Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Arlington, Virginia, United States; hybrid schedule with onsite work Tuesday through Thursday each week

Salary: $180,000–$225,000 starting base salary per year

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate schemas, pipelines, data marts, and feature pipelines for the hirify.global Global Card across card, credit, payments, and fraud use cases.
• Define the architecture and roadmap for scalable, reliable, and cost-efficient data systems.
• Implement data quality checks, monitoring, automated testing, alerting, safe backfills, recovery processes, and source-data validation.
• Partner with product managers, analysts, and data scientists to create reusable schemas, data contracts, metric definitions, documentation, and lineage.
• Set standards for data modeling, code review, CI/CD, access control, sensitive-data handling, retention, and deletion.
• Contribute to backend services, collaborate with platform teams, mentor engineers and analysts, and participate in technical interviews.

Requirements

• 5+ years of data engineering experience in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
• Expert SQL and strong data modeling skills, including dimensional modeling, schema evolution, and scalable analytical tables.
• Experience building and operating large-scale batch and streaming pipelines with orchestration, distributed processing or query engines such as Spark, Trino, or EMR, and cloud infrastructure such as AWS.
• Proficiency in at least one data or backend programming language, such as Python, Scala, Java, or Go, plus experience operating backend services.
• Experience leading projects, setting technical direction, estimating work, mentoring engineers, and translating ambiguous business needs into technical plans.
• Experience using AI development tools while reviewing generated code and protecting sensitive data; a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Experience with financial data in fintech, lending, or payments, including accuracy, security, and compliance requirements.
