Azure Engineer, SQL and Data Lakehouse

Location: Toronto, ON, with a hybrid arrangement requiring 1–3 days per week on-site

What you will do

• Design, develop, and optimize backend databases and data warehousing solutions in Azure cloud environments.
• Build and maintain ETL pipelines for datasets exceeding 5TB.
• Write and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
• Implement data models and Lakehouse architecture using Azure SQL, PySpark, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Delta tables.
• Troubleshoot database objects, tune performance, and support Azure infrastructure for database and data pipeline solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, lead complex technical projects, conduct code reviews, and mentor developers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience designing and optimizing backend databases and building ETL pipelines for large datasets.
• Strong experience with complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, triggers, data modeling, and advanced performance tuning.
• Experience with Azure SQL environments, data warehousing, and troubleshooting database performance.
• Familiarity with PySpark, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Delta tables/Lakehouse architecture.
• Experience with technical infrastructure design, application programming, technology roadmaps, and complex projects.
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada and a valid work or study permit where applicable are required.

Nice to have

• Experience using Agentic AI technologies such as Copilot to improve productivity and develop innovative solutions.
• Experience mentoring developers and leading code-review sessions.
