Underwriting Trainee (Insurance)

Location: Hybrid, Branchville, New Jersey, United States; training begins with 8 weeks at the corporate headquarters in Branchville, NJ. May require travel to agents’ offices, Risk Management surveys, Premium Audit reviews, and Claim reviews.

Salary: USD 70,000 per year.

What you will do

• Build insurance expertise through classroom learning, business rotations, and on-the-job training in the 9-month Momentum Trainee program.
• Learn to underwrite renewal business and administer underwriting rules, rating manual rules, insurance laws, and regulations.
• Analyze customer needs, underwriting information, and data to determine coverage and line-of-business upsell opportunities.
• Learn to negotiate renewal price, coverage, and terms and present renewal proposals to agency personnel.
• Build relationships with agents through visits, phone conversations, and written correspondence.
• Collaborate with underwriting, claims, and marketing teams and participate in an assigned corporate group project.

Requirements

• May be required to travel to agents’ offices, attend Risk Management surveys, and participate in Premium Audit and Claim reviews; a valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing is required.
• Demonstrated self-starter qualities.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers and peers.
• Sound, balanced, and timely decision-making skills.
• Must achieve the AINS and AU insurance designations within 18 months of accepting the position.
