Underwriting Trainee - Hamilton, NJ (Hybrid)

Location: Hamilton, New Jersey, United States; hybrid work based out of the Hamilton, NJ office. The 9-month trainee program begins with 8 weeks at the corporate headquarters in Branchville, NJ, followed by a return to regional offices.

Salary: USD 70,000 per year.

What you will do

• Develop proficiency in insurance theories and practices and prepare detailed account reviews for corporate and business-unit stakeholders.
• Analyze customer needs, including coverage requirements and Safety Management Services.
• Learn to negotiate renewal price, coverage, and terms and present renewal proposals to agency personnel with assigned underwriters or AMS.
• Build relationships with agents through agency visits, phone conversations, and written correspondence.
• Collaborate with underwriting, claims, and marketing teams while learning insurance business processes.
• Analyze underwriting information and data to determine coverage and line-of-business upsell opportunities; travel may be required for agent visits, Safety Management surveys, Premium Audit reviews, and Claim reviews.

Requirements

• Demonstrated self-starter with effective communication skills for internal and external customers and peers.
• Sound, balanced, and timely decision-making skills.
• Valid state-issued driver's license in good standing.
• Achieve the AINS and AU insurance designations within 18 months of accepting the position.
