Lead Data Engineer (Sports Betting)

Location: Soho, London, United Kingdom; hybrid working with 3 days in the office from Tuesday to Thursday

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership and act as a subject matter expert for data engineering projects and domains.
• Design, build, test, and deploy scalable, reliable, and fault-tolerant data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
• Implement data architecture blueprints across data warehouses, data lakes, data stores, and cloud infrastructure.
• Contribute hands-on through coding, data modeling, infrastructure-as-code development, and platform configuration.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, performance, monitoring, and operational cost efficiency.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, product managers, data scientists, and business stakeholders while mentoring junior and mid-level engineers.

Requirements

• Senior or lead-level experience designing and optimizing complex, large-scale data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
• Practical experience with enterprise data warehousing and integrated analytical data models.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-native data services on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including Git, CI/CD, automated testing, Agile or Scrum, and clean coding practices.
• Exceptional programming skills in at least one relevant language such as Python, Scala, Java, JavaScript, or C/C++.
• Experience with relational, NoSQL, and analytical database systems, data architecture patterns, distributed systems, and regulatory reporting in gaming or another regulated industry.

Nice to have

• Experience with Data Mesh, Data Lakehouse, Lambda, or Kappa architectures.
• Fluency in AI prompting and awareness of emerging AI technologies.
