Lead Data Engineer (AI)

What you will do

• Lead a small team of data engineers while remaining hands-on with production data systems.
• Design and operate pipelines, integrations, data services, and reusable ingestion patterns for compensation benchmarks, customer-facing tools, and AI agents.
• Shape the data roadmap with Product, Data Science, and Insights, balancing customer value, reliability, manual effort, complexity, and cloud costs.
• Build data quality, governance, security, monitoring, testing, and deployment practices into everyday delivery.
• Own production reliability, support, recovery, and self-service workflows for data systems.
• Partner with software engineers, product managers, data colleagues, Operations, Customer Success, and founders to deliver agreed outcomes.

Requirements

• Six-plus years of data engineering experience, including at least two years in a team leadership role.
• Strong Python and SQL skills with experience operating production data systems.
• Experience with data modelling, dbt, workflow orchestration, cloud infrastructure, infrastructure as code, automated testing, and CI/CD.
• Practical knowledge of schema changes, retries, safe reprocessing, backfills, monitoring, and data quality checks.
• Experience applying platform engineering principles such as reusable ingestion patterns, clear data interfaces, and self-service tooling.
• Ability to mentor engineers, set team goals, communicate effectively, and work in a fast-paced startup environment.

Nice to have

• Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools for development, testing, documentation, and investigation.
• Experience with GCP services including Cloud Functions, Workflows, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, and Datastream.
• Experience with dlt, PostgreSQL, pandas, polars, scikit, Jupyter notebooks, GitHub Actions, Terraform, and Artifact Registry.
