Technical Writer (Energy Infrastructure)

Location: Onsite in San Francisco, Sunnyvale, or Reno, United States. Occasional travel between U.S. offices and to manufacturing, installation, or job sites is required.

Salary: $125,000–$175,000 USD in San Francisco; $95,000–$135,000 USD in Reno.

What you will do

• Author, edit, and maintain product documentation covering sales, site design, installation, commissioning, operations, maintenance, service, troubleshooting, safety, applications, and technical whitepapers.
• Translate complex electrical, mechanical, control-system, software, and networking concepts into clear and standardized customer documentation.
• Manage source files, graphics, diagrams, and illustrations with engineering and design teams.
• Establish documentation standards, templates, and style guides, and coordinate revisions with product releases and engineering changes.
• Design, implement, and administer an online document portal, including content organization, site structure, access permissions, and user roles.
• Monitor portal usage, improve self-service support, and lead technical translation and localization for international markets.

Requirements

• 5+ years of technical writing experience for complex hardware and software products.
• Experience creating installation, commissioning, operations, service, and safety documentation for complex mechanical or electrical equipment.
• Technical depth across mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and networking disciplines.
• Experience planning, building, or administering a document management system or customer and partner portal.
• Proficiency with structured authoring and technical publishing tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, or Oxygen XML, plus graphics tools.
• Strong project management, written communication, accuracy, consistency, and clarity, with willingness to travel occasionally to relevant sites.

Nice to have

• Startup or engineering experience.
• Background in energy, power generation, industrial equipment, or equipment OEM environments.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics, single-line and wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, CAD models, specifications, and test documentation.
