Machine Learning Engineer III (Routing Cost)

Location: Hybrid in Finland at hirify.global Helsinki; internal applicants located in Germany will be considered.

What you will do

• Lead end-to-end feature implementation within the Navigation organization.
• Design, build, and optimize machine learning and data pipelines for the routing cost engine.
• Develop automated quality assurance, data exploration, tuning, and outlier detection tools.
• Apply geospatial algorithms and collaborate with data scientists to improve movement and traffic models.
• Mentor engineers and participate in code and design reviews.
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, including occasional responses outside normal working hours and on weekends.

Requirements

• 8–10+ years of backend and machine learning engineering experience.
• Extensive experience with Python, distributed processing pipelines such as Hadoop, Spark, Airflow, and Dask, and very large datasets.
• Experience with statistical analysis, data quality control, storage optimization, and cloud infrastructure.
• Strong background in robust architecture, clean code, technical ownership, and execution of engineering strategy.
• Experience mentoring and leading engineering teams, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate across security, DevOps, data, compliance, and product functions.

Nice to have

• Experience with geospatial localization, traffic telemetry, mapping, or navigation systems.
• Thoughtful use of AI in engineering design, development, and decision-making.
