Machine Learning Engineering Manager

Location: Berlin, Germany; hybrid with required attendance at the Berlin office 3 days per week

What you will do

• Own the strategy, roadmap, and technical direction of the shared Machine Learning Platform.
• Lead, mentor, hire, and develop a Berlin-based team of Machine Learning Platform Engineers.
• Design and evolve platform architecture across the machine learning lifecycle, contributing hands-on to complex engineering problems.
• Build self-service capabilities for training orchestration, model deployment and serving, feature management, and LLM workflows.
• Establish monitoring, alerting, incident response, reliability, and production-readiness standards.
• Coordinate complex initiatives across Data Science, Engineering, Operations, and downstream product teams.

Requirements

• Strong foundations in software engineering, machine learning, and systems design, with significant experience operating production ML systems, platforms, or infrastructure.
• At least 5 years of experience with ML lifecycle systems, including training orchestration, model serving, feature management, and monitoring.
• Meaningful people leadership experience covering hiring, coaching, performance management, and technical talent development.
• Strong ownership, judgment, systems thinking, and the ability to balance reliability, cost, developer experience, technical debt, and platform evolution.
• Experience leading across organizational boundaries and driving adoption of shared infrastructure through collaboration.
• Hands-on experience with Python, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, Kafka, AWS, Airflow, and Trino.

Nice to have

• Experience building LLM or agent workflows, including prompt or dataset-processing pipelines.
• Fluency with AI-assisted workflows and the ability to evaluate their outputs and limitations critically.
