Instrumentation Engineer

Location: Benicarló, Spain; onsite role

What you will do

• Act as the site focal point for Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) performance, compliance, and lifecycle management.
• Lead SIS design, validation, testing, and periodic verification in line with IEC 61511.
• Configure, maintain, and improve control system safety interlocks, instrumentation, DCS, and PLC automation systems.
• Troubleshoot instrumentation and control systems, perform root cause analysis, and improve operational reliability.
• Support electrical safety programs, including LOTO, energy isolation, arc flash management, and safe work procedures.
• Lead instrumentation and control activities for capital projects, continuous improvement, Management of Change, process safety assessments, and KPI monitoring.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Industrial, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience in industrial environments such as chemical, pharmaceutical, or related manufacturing industries.
• Strong knowledge of functional safety, IEC 61511, SIS, commissioning, troubleshooting, and safety-critical operations.
• Practical experience with instrumentation and control systems, including DCS and PLC platforms; Siemens PCS7 or an equivalent DCS is required.
• Knowledge of electrical safety, arc flash, energy isolation, HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL assessment methods.
• Fluency in English and Spanish is required. Familiarity with industrial automation networks, SAP or similar ERP systems, and AutoCAD.
