Senior Engineering Manager (Payments)

Location: Barcelona, Spain; remote or hybrid work model available with a Barcelona hub.

What you will do

• Lead a team of 7–9 engineers responsible for the Payments area.
• Manage performance, set expectations, provide feedback, run reviews, and address underperformance fairly and early.
• Develop engineers through growth plans, coaching, pairing, code reviews, and stretch opportunities.
• Partner with Product and Design to prioritize foundations, experiments, and payment initiatives based on user feedback.
• Stay hands-on in the codebase by implementing features and architectural changes.
• Maintain AI-native development practices while improving delivery speed, quality, operational burden, and product outcomes.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• 4+ years of leading engineering teams in product companies, including hiring, growth, and performance management.
• Demonstrated experience growing engineers and handling difficult performance situations.
• Hands-on experience using AI for coding, code review, and refactoring, with sound judgment about its limitations.
• Founder mindset, comfort with ambiguity, rapid experimentation, user validation, and evidence-based pivots.
• Fluent English required.

Nice to have

• Experience in payments or fintech, including PSPs, reconciliation, or compliance.
• Experience working at scale.
