Senior Project Engineer - Advanced Engines (Spark Ignition)

Location: Hybrid role based in Pontiac or Warren, Michigan, United States; reporting to a specific location at least 3 times per week. Travel required up to 25%.

What you will do

• Lead or support advanced spark ignition engine technology projects for conventional and hybrid propulsion systems.
• Assess and develop technologies for reducing engine-out and tailpipe emissions while improving efficiency and performance.
• Evaluate combustion, valvetrain, fuel, boost, EGR, aftertreatment, controls, algorithms, and OBD technologies through analysis and experimental testing.
• Develop test plans and execute proof-of-concept, component procurement, build, and design verification activities using multi-cylinder engine test benches.
• Provide technical guidance to analysis, design, calibration, and controls engineers and collaborate with suppliers and development partners.
• Analyze and communicate test results while supporting issue resolution and project execution.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in spark ignition engine component or subsystem design, analysis, testing, or related engine technologies.
• Experience with spark ignition engine architecture, engine system development, emissions, controls, and/or calibration.
• Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree.
• Strong analytical ability and understanding of spark ignition engine mechanical and/or electrical systems.
• Ability to create and present clear, concise technical information to colleagues and management.
• Must be able to work in the United States without GM immigration sponsorship; GM does not provide sponsorship for this role.

Nice to have

• Experience providing technical guidance across engine design, analysis, purchasing, suppliers, build, development, and controls.
• Experience managing complex cross-functional projects with technical, timing, and budget deliverables.
• Master’s degree in engineering.
• DFSS Green Belt or higher.
