Automation & AI Engineer

Location: Onsite in Fairfax, Virginia, United States

Salary: $120,000–$170,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain automation across AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, and on-premises data center infrastructure.
• Automate patch orchestration, DISA STIG hardening, configuration validation, drift remediation, and cybersecurity compliance workflows.
• Develop Python tools for CKL files, ACAS and Nessus exports, IAVM and POA&M tracking, reports, and dashboards.
• Create reusable Terraform modules for compute, networking, identity and access management, storage, and monitoring.
• Integrate Jira, Splunk, NetBox, Infoblox, NetApp ONTAP, Active Directory, and cloud services through APIs and structured data formats.
• Maintain GitHub workflows and CI/CD pipelines with code review, testing, security scanning, release controls, and auditability.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret or higher security clearance are required.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• At least 5 years of experience in systems engineering, DevOps, site reliability engineering, or automation engineering.
• Strong Python development experience with JSON, YAML, CSV, REST APIs, logging, error handling, and unit testing.
• Production Terraform experience with reusable modules, remote state, workspaces, and AWS or Azure providers, plus Git and GitHub proficiency.
• Ability to work onsite as required by the program. Working knowledge of Windows Server, Linux, Active Directory, networking, and DoD cybersecurity compliance is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, GCC High, Impact Level 4 or 5 workloads, or FedRAMP High.
• PowerShell, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS Systems Manager, Azure Automation, or infrastructure security scanning experience.
• Experience automating STIG compliance, generating eMASS-ready evidence, or integrating Splunk, Nagios, NetBox, Infoblox, or NetApp ONTAP.
• Experience using large language model APIs or agentic automation platforms such as Amazon Bedrock or Azure OpenAI.
• Terraform, Ansible, AWS, Azure, Security+, or other DoD 8140-aligned certifications and federal Agile delivery experience.
