Associate Director, Systems Test Engineering (Robotics)

Location: Waltham, Massachusetts, United States. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Base pay: $178,000–$221,000 per year.

What you will do

• Lead systems verification, validation, and test engineering for the Atlas humanoid robot product ecosystem.
• Recruit, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary team spanning mechanical, electrical, and software expertise.
• Develop risk-based verification priorities, test methods, fixtures, and repeatable test systems.
• Lead Design Verification Planning and Reporting across a complex, rapidly evolving product ecosystem.
• Improve requirements quality and bidirectional traceability between requirements, verification plans, and results.
• Support system characterization, benchmarking, lab capabilities, and qualification for high-volume production.

Requirements

• 10+ years of test engineering experience.
• 5+ years leading cross-disciplinary teams developing and verifying robotic or similarly complex embedded systems.
• 5+ years directly managing managers, engineers, and technicians.
• Expertise in translating complex performance requirements into practical, repeatable, and reproducible tests.
• Experience with formal verification and validation, resource planning, requirements quality, and risk-based test prioritization.
• Eligibility to work in the United States is required; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with DFMEA, DVP&R, DOE, failure analysis, root cause assessment, and 8D problem solving.
• Experience with accelerated life testing, fault insertion, environmental testing, EMC, ESD, HALT, HASS, HIL, and simulation.
• Knowledge of robotics hardware including motors, controllers, gear trains, sensors, cameras, batteries, BMS, mechanisms, and embedded electronics.
• Experience with automotive product development, regulatory compliance, safety-critical systems, and high-volume manufacturing.
• Familiarity with Python, C, Matlab, Jama, Jira, Testrail, Altium, Catia, Mujoco, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and CI/CD.
