Senior Software Engineer (Vue/TypeScript)

Location: Remote in the United States; Chicago, Illinois, US

Salary: $135,000–$150,000 per year, depending on relevant experience

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain full-stack features across Django, TypeScript/Node.js, and Vue.js.
• Design and evolve MongoDB and PostgreSQL schemas, data models, indexes, and performance strategies.
• Use AWS services including Lambda, S3, Aurora, DynamoDB, and IAM to build, deploy, and operate applications.
• Contribute to a modular, plugin-based civic assembly platform and its architecture.
• Write tested, maintainable code, participate in code reviews, and maintain production reliability during high-traffic program periods.
• Mentor mid-level and contract engineers and communicate technical tradeoffs with technical and non-technical colleagues.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, including experience in medium- to large-sized engineering organizations.
• Deep JavaScript ecosystem expertise with TypeScript and Node.js, plus strong Vue.js or React experience.
• Hands-on Python and Django experience.
• Experience designing relational and NoSQL data models with PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
• Practical experience with AWS services such as Lambda, S3, Aurora, DynamoDB, and IAM roles and policies.
• Strong communication, initiative, ownership, and software quality standards; a bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience is preferred.

Nice to have

• NestJS and Terraform experience.
• Experience with real-time or video-based applications.
• Experience in nonprofit, civic tech, education technology, or public-interest sectors.
• Experience designing extensible systems, plugin architectures, module contracts, or public APIs.
