UX Researcher (AI/ML)

Location: Remote within the United States, with a strong preference for candidates in the Washington, DC metro area and occasional onsite meetings in Washington, DC. U.S. citizenship, U.S. residence, U.S. work authorization, and performance of all work within the U.S. are required. Candidates must have lived in the U.S. for three full years out of the last five.

Salary: $81,499–$138,549 annually for full-time employment.

What you will do

• Support UX vision and strategy for a cloud-based federal data and analytics platform with data storage, governance, analytics, and AI/ML capabilities.
• Frame research problems with stakeholders, develop hypotheses and research plans, and conduct interviews, usability testing, contextual inquiry, surveys, and journey-based research.
• Create personas, journey maps, experience assessments, service blueprints, empathy maps, and other research artifacts.
• Analyze and synthesize customer feedback into actionable recommendations for product, service, CRM, workflow, training, and continuous-improvement decisions.
• Partner with UX design, service design, product, engineering, and other cross-functional stakeholders to support solution development and decision-making.
• Apply human-centered design, accessibility, federal service design, and research documentation practices to improve customer experiences and traceability.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship, U.S. residence, authorization to work in the U.S., and work performed in the U.S. are required.
• Three full years of residence in the U.S. during the last five years are required.
• Bachelor’s degree in human-centered design, UX research, psychology, human factors, anthropology, sociology, design research, information science, or a related field, or a high school diploma plus four additional years of relevant experience.
• At least three years of relevant experience; a related master’s degree may substitute for two years of experience.
• Strong mixed-method research, synthesis, presentation, analytical, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with research and collaboration tools such as Miro, Figma, UserZoom, Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, Dovetail, Microsoft Forms, or similar platforms.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting federal government, healthcare, regulated environments, analytics platforms, or enterprise technology modernization.
• Active or past Veterans Affairs clearance.
• Experience with Agile cross-functional delivery teams, accessibility, inclusive design, Section 508 compliance, and federal service design.
