Backend Tech Lead (Java/Kotlin)

Location: Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel; office-based R&D role

What you will do

• Drive the technical direction of the core backend orchestration layer.
• Lead engineers building systems that connect hardware control systems, client SDKs, reporting, and business logic.
• Shape architecture for thousands of requests per second, strict latency requirements, distributed coordination, and difficult concurrency scenarios.
• Lead design reviews, resolve service-boundary decisions, and identify architectural flaws.
• Write production code and mentor engineers while maintaining strong code-quality standards.

Requirements

• 8+ years of backend development experience with Java or Kotlin, including technical leadership experience.
• Strong hands-on coding ability; this is not a management-only role.
• Deep expertise in concurrency, including race conditions, lock ordering, and asynchronous patterns.
• Experience designing systems at scale, including throughput, distributed coordination, and performance trade-offs.
• Ability to lead constructive design reviews, mentor engineers, and communicate with non-backend audiences.

Nice to have

• Spring experience and gRPC-based communication.
• Python programming and experience working in polyglot environments.
• Experience with AI coding agents and defining effective team practices for their use.
• Experience with real-time, low-latency, or hardware-adjacent systems.
