Senior Software Engineer (Payments)

Location: United States; roles are based in Los Angeles, CA or San Francisco, CA, with fully remote or hybrid work available.

Salary: $190,000–$215,000 annual base salary for roles based in San Francisco and Los Angeles; final offers vary by location, experience, expertise, and scope.

What you will do

• Analyze, design, and implement improvements to payment platforms and recurring payment flows.
• Optimize payment processing pipelines to reduce latency and improve transaction speed, throughput, performance, and reliability.
• Build resilient handling for payment provider degradation, timeouts, and other failure scenarios.
• Integrate third-party payment providers, methods, and gateways through APIs.
• Develop and maintain APIs for payment processing and reconciliation.
• Implement monitoring, alerting, incident response, troubleshooting, logging, and audit documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Professional software engineering experience focused on payment platforms and optimization.
• Strong knowledge of payment workflows, protocols, security standards, PCI DSS, regulatory requirements, fraud prevention, and risk management.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, or C++ and experience with databases, data modeling, cloud-based payment solutions, and payment gateway APIs.
• Experience using AI coding assistants to prompt, validate, iterate, and refine generated code.
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, communication, collaboration, independence, and attention to detail.
