Director, Defense Business Development – Europe & Middle East (Aerospace/Defense)

Location: Remote in Europe, the UK, Italy, Norway, or Sweden; candidates must reside in Europe. Significant travel throughout Europe and periodic travel to headquarters in Los Angeles are required.

What you will do

• Build Machina’s business across the European defense market, initially targeting major defense primes and missile, hypersonic, and strike programs.
• Identify technical problems and programs suited to Machina’s technologies, converting them into proof-of-concept, qualification, and production opportunities.
• Develop trusted relationships with engineering, program, manufacturing, and business leaders at target customers.
• Create the European account and market strategy, including target partners, investment priorities, and areas of market focus.
• Provide regional market intelligence and shape Machina’s long-term European strategy.
• Coordinate with U.S. business development, engineering, manufacturing, and leadership teams to move opportunities into execution.

Requirements

• Strong technical foundation, ideally with an engineering background and experience in business development, capture, program leadership, or another customer-facing role.
• Deep understanding of missile, hypersonic, strike, propulsion, weapons systems, aerospace, or related defense technologies and manufacturing processes.
• Demonstrated experience building business with European defense primes and navigating complex technical organizations.
• Experience progressing opportunities through technical evaluation, qualification, and production.
• Ability to operate independently, set strategy, and build momentum without an established local team or playbook.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to travel extensively throughout Europe and periodically to Los Angeles.

Nice to have

• Experience inside a major European defense prime, missile manufacturer, or critical subsystem supplier.
• Existing relationships across European missile, hypersonic, strike, or advanced weapons programs.
• Experience in advanced manufacturing, aerospace structures, propulsion, or complex metal assemblies.
• Experience in a startup, growth-stage defense technology company, or similarly fast-moving environment.
• Additional European language proficiency.
