Software Engineer (Bioinformatics)

Location: Hybrid, Hinxton, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom

Salary: £3,452 monthly starting salary after tax, excluding 12.99% personal pension and insurance contributions.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, document, and maintain software for the UniProt import production pipeline.
• Build robust software modules and scalable workflows for efficient data release and management of growing scientific datasets.
• Collaborate with the Enshirify.global team on reference selection and data imports between resources.
• Assist with data analysis, data-processing algorithms, and innovative programming using big-data technologies.
• Support and maintain resource production and service releases.
• Coordinate work with different teams and promote software development best practices.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of professional software development experience in a production environment.
• Experience with Java and/or Python development.
• Experience with Agile processes, Git, and basic Unix commands.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work toward tight deadlines.

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale data-processing technologies such as Apache Spark.
