Backend Engineer - Commodities

Location: United Kingdom; hybrid workplace

hirify.global provides a real-time trade intelligence platform and is expanding its coverage into North American inland supply chains.

What you will do

• Build and maintain scalable ingestion and processing pipelines for sensor, rail, and waterway data using Python, Kafka, and Airflow.
• Develop backend services with FastAPI and contribute to customer-facing web applications using TypeScript and Vue.
• Implement data validation, monitoring, and alerting for noisy time-series data from field hardware.
• Own services end to end, including deployments, observability, debugging, and on-call support.
• Collaborate with data science and sensor operations teams to turn raw telemetry into usable customer datasets.
• Participate in technical design, CI/CD improvements, and delivery of tested, documented code.

Requirements

• 2–4 years of professional software engineering experience building and supporting production software.
• Strong proficiency with Python and relational databases, including SQL and Postgres.
• Experience deploying, debugging, and operating backend services in cloud environments; AWS is preferred.
• Hands-on experience with message queues, streaming platforms such as Kafka, and RESTful API development.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to turn ambiguous requirements into working software.

Nice to have

• Experience with FastAPI, Airflow, TypeScript, Vue, or Elasticsearch.
• Exposure to time-series, IoT, remote sensor, or geospatial datasets.
• Interest in energy, commodities, or logistics supply chains.
