Senior Engineer, Mission Planning (Satellite)

Location: Remote within the United States, or offices in Seattle, Washington, and Herndon, Virginia. US citizenship is required; the role is subject to ITAR and other US Government space technology export regulations.

Salary: $120,000–$145,000 per year for the Seattle location.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain autonomous mission-planning capabilities for a satellite constellation.
• Model, implement, and test planning concepts for imaging, system calibration, propulsion, and other constellation activities.
• Develop algorithms that optimize image capture while respecting satellite and mission constraints.
• Model satellite communications, power, and attitude subsystems for mission-planning and control software.
• Translate product concepts into system and software requirements, prototypes, schedules, and technical implementations.
• Support constellation operations, customer fulfillment, launch and early operations, and anomaly response as a mission-planning subject matter expert.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, computer science, or an equivalent field.
• At least six years of relevant professional experience with complex automated systems such as satellites, vehicles, drones, or logistics fleets.
• Experience with planning or optimization algorithms, including their inputs, outputs, and constraints.
• Experience writing technical requirements and driving them through implementation.
• Working knowledge of Python or Go, plus software design, data structures, data storage, algorithm efficiency, and scalable maintainable code.
• US citizenship is required, and the position must comply with ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

• Satellite or aerial imagery planning experience, including point targets, strip mapping, pushbroom, whiskbroom, wide-area, or stereo capture planning.
• Knowledge of orbital mechanics, attitude dynamics, and satellite systems.
• Experience with modeling and simulation, integer or linear programming solvers, or embedded systems for satellites and autonomous vehicles.
