Solution Architect (Genomics)

Location: London, United Kingdom; hybrid working with office attendance expected at least twice a month. Office locations also include Cambridge and Leeds.

Salary from £96,500 per year.

What you will do

• Lead the architecture and design of secure, scalable, resilient solutions for the Use Research Data service.
• Design across application, data, infrastructure, integration, and security domains.
• Architect platforms for ingesting, storing, processing, analysing, and providing controlled access to large-scale genomic and health data.
• Work with product, engineering, science, data, security, and delivery specialists to translate complex needs into technical designs and roadmaps.
• Guide architectural decisions, governance, assurance, risk management, and delivery from discovery through live service.
• Develop reusable architecture patterns and evaluate AWS services and other technologies for performance, security, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.

Requirements

• Substantial hands-on experience designing and delivering AWS solution architectures in complex, data-intensive environments.
• Strong knowledge of AWS compute, storage, networking, identity, security, data processing, and integration services.
• Experience designing secure, scalable, and resilient platforms for large and sensitive datasets.
• Experience translating business, research, or user needs into technical designs and delivery roadmaps.
• Understanding of secure-by-design principles, data protection, governance, access controls, APIs, integration patterns, and interoperability.
• Experience communicating architecture decisions and providing governance across multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to have

• AWS architecture or other relevant professional certification.
• Experience in healthcare, genomics, bioinformatics, scientific research, or other regulated environments.
• Knowledge of AWS HealthOmics, high-performance computing, high-speed storage, workflow orchestration, or distributed data processing.
• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, automation, observability, metadata, data lineage, and interoperability standards.
• Knowledge of OMOP, GA4GH, FHIR, Common Workflow Language, Nextflow, WDL, TOGAF, or enterprise architecture tools.
