Software Engineer (L6) (AI)

Location: Manchester, UK; hybrid working with up to 4 days per week from home. Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK.

Salary: £75,000–£90,000 per year, dependent on experience.

What you will do

• Set technical direction across a significant area of the product and guide system build, evolution, and retirement.
• Identify and solve cross-team architecture, scalability, operational, security, and reliability problems.
• Lead technical decisions for shared services, platform components, and boundaries between teams.
• Drive AI agents, shared plugins, and AI infrastructure in CI and code review, including governance, guardrails, and build-versus-buy decisions.
• Lead complex platform changes, framework upgrades, security architecture, cost optimization, and reliability initiatives.
• Mentor engineers, establish standards, and connect technical trade-offs to product and commercial outcomes.

Requirements

• Deep commercial experience with PHP and Laravel or a similar MVC framework.
• Architecture and design leadership across multiple teams or systems.
• Experience with Vue 3, React, Angular, or a similar modern JavaScript framework.
• Strong production experience with AWS; ECS, RDS, SQS, Lambda, and EventBridge are advantageous.
• Experience building AI tooling, agents, or infrastructure used by other engineers, with appropriate safety guardrails.
• Eligibility to live and work in the UK is required.

• Experience with AWS ECS, RDS, SQS, Lambda, and EventBridge.
• Background in product-level technical leadership and cross-team systems thinking.
