Research Engineer (AI/ML)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; full-time, in-person work in a San Francisco office

Salary: $140K–$250K base, plus approximately 0.25% equity

What you will do

• Identify data quality issues, including inconsistencies, formatting problems, and ingestion challenges.
• Perform initial manual data reviews to understand failure modes in depth.
• Build scalable automated quality checks using rule-based and AI-driven approaches.
• Design hybrid verification systems that combine automation with human-in-the-loop review.
• Continuously improve verification methods as the data landscape and AI tooling evolve.

Requirements

• Strong technical background with the ability to learn quickly in a fast-moving field.
• Experience in AI/ML engineering or software engineering at an AI-focused company.
• Visible experience with data ingestion and processing.
• Ability to reason about data quality problems from first principles.
• Ability to own ambiguous, open-ended problems end to end.
• Comfort working full-time and in person from the San Francisco office.

Nice to have

• Experience working with noisy or unstructured data.
• Judgment about when to use automation versus human-in-the-loop review.
