Senior SQL Server Database Administrator (SaaS)

Location: Remote, candidates must be based in the UK; hybrid working from the Cosham office is available, with occasional onsite workshops.

What you will do

• Administer, monitor, and support production and non-production Microsoft SQL Server instances and cloud database services, including SingleStore.
• Improve availability, reliability, scalability, security, and performance for business-critical SaaS workloads.
• Diagnose complex database issues involving queries, blocking, deadlocks, replication, storage, connectivity, and resource contention.
• Design and test backup, restore, high-availability, and disaster-recovery processes.
• Lead database installations, upgrades, patching, migrations, refreshes, and decommissioning.
• Automate administration, monitoring, and deployment through T-SQL, scripting, source control, and CI/CD tools while supporting database changes across the software delivery lifecycle.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience administering business-critical production databases, including significant senior DBA experience.
• Strong hands-on expertise with Microsoft SQL Server, including configuration, upgrades, backups, recovery, security, and performance tuning.
• Experience supporting high-volume OLTP systems and large datasets in demanding 24×7 environments, ideally within SaaS.
• Advanced knowledge of SQL Server HA/DR technologies such as Always On Availability Groups, clustering, replication, log shipping, and tested restores.
• Expert T-SQL skills and strong knowledge of execution plans, indexing, statistics, locking, isolation levels, query optimization, observability, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with Azure or AWS database services, SingleStore or distributed SQL platforms, secure database operations, data modeling, and CI/CD automation.

Nice to have

• Relevant Microsoft, cloud, or database certifications.
• Experience with successful database migrations or modernization projects with minimal service disruption.
