TL;DR
Power Electronics Engineer (Fusion Energy): Developing high-power-density conversion systems for commercial stellarator fusion with an accent on converter topologies, magnetic components, semiconductor stresses, thermal performance, and reliability. Focus on building and testing prototypes, correlating laboratory measurements with simulations, and validating power-stage designs under demanding operating conditions.
Location: Zurich, Switzerland; on-site
Company
hirify.global is a European fusion company developing the hardware and infrastructure for commercial stellarator fusion power plants, based on next-generation machines and high-temperature superconducting magnet technology.
What you will do
Evaluate and develop power-conversion topologies for converters, balancing efficiency, electrical stress, thermal behaviour, reliability, power density, and system requirements.
Design magnetic components including inductors, transformers, and chokes, covering material selection, core geometries, winding concepts, losses, and thermal limits.
Build analytical and simulation models for converter behaviour, semiconductor stresses, switching and conduction losses, efficiency, and operating-range performance.
Build prototypes and conduct laboratory testing, characterization, verification, troubleshooting, and validation of power-electronic circuits and converter stages.
Analyse test results and correlate measurements with simulations and calculations to improve designs and validate converter performance.
Collaborate with integrated electronics, embedded software, mechanical, thermal, and systems engineering.
Requirements
University degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field.
Experience taking power-stage designs from concept and simulation through component selection, prototype implementation, laboratory measurement, debugging, and validation.
Expertise in power-conversion topologies, power semiconductors, magnetic components, and passive components.
Ability to work on high-power-density, high-voltage, high-current systems with fast dynamic response and demanding efficiency and reliability requirements.
Nice to have
Experience with electro-thermal simulation tools such as PLECS.
Experience with SiC or GaN semiconductors and high-frequency magnetics.
Culture & Benefits
Work in a multidisciplinary fusion engineering team combining advanced simulation with hands-on hardware development.
Contribute to the development of commercial stellarator fusion and clean-energy technology.
