Senior Full-Stack AI Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Salary: CA$122,835–CA$180,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Design, build, and ship full-stack features for Alfie, owning work from data models and APIs through to the user experience.
• Build and operate TypeScript or Python backend services with Postgres, AWS, and Kubernetes.
• Develop React and TypeScript conversational and streaming interfaces.
• Design LLM and agentic workflows, including prompts, tool calling, multi-step reasoning, evaluation, and human handoffs.
• Build observability and evaluation systems, troubleshoot production issues, and improve AI behavior using evidence.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers on end-to-end delivery.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional full-stack software engineering experience with strong backend and frontend depth.
• Proficiency in TypeScript or Python and experience designing database-backed services with Postgres or a similar relational database.
• Strong experience with React, backend integration, APIs, and real-time or streaming data.
• At least 1 year of hands-on experience building LLM-powered or agentic products and shipping conversational AI used by real end users.
• Experience with prompt engineering, LLM design patterns, observability, containerized services, Kubernetes, AWS, system design, and scalable architecture.
• Hybrid work in Toronto, Ontario, Canada; collaborative work in a fast-paced environment is expected.

Nice to have

• Experience building products beyond standard CRUD applications and dashboards, with polished or distinctive user experiences.
• Experience with AWS Lambda for asynchronous or infrequent processing.
