Frontend Engineer (Robotics)

Location: On-site in San Mateo, San Francisco Bay Area, or Somerville, Boston

What you will do

• Build web applications for robot monitoring, data exploration, model training and evaluation, and internal tooling.
• Develop responsive interfaces that turn complex technical requirements into clear user workflows.
• Create interactive visualizations for robot telemetry, video, experiment results, and system health.
• Shape frontend architecture and establish shared components, styles, and interaction patterns across research and robot operator interfaces.
• Work with researchers, operators, customers, design, product, and infrastructure teams to test ideas and improve the product.
• Improve frontend development conventions, reusable patterns, and tooling.

Requirements

• Production experience with TypeScript, React, and modern frontend tooling.
• Strong frontend architecture fundamentals, including component boundaries and application state management.
• Experience managing asynchronous data and user interactions during background updates, slow requests, and failures.
• Good judgment around shared component libraries, UI patterns, standardization, and flexibility.
• Clear communication and a collaborative approach across engineering, design, and product.

Nice to have

• Experience with robotics, AI, scientific computing, or other technically complex domains.
• Experience with real-time interfaces, streaming data, or event-driven systems.
• Experience optimizing data-intensive interfaces, including large tables, interactive visualizations, and video.
• Experience with frontend developer tooling, browser performance profiling, observability, or automated testing.
